The app
- Doorplate connects to the internet for two things. The license: once when you enter a key, and about once a month to confirm it still stands, it sends the key and this Mac’s name to the shop and nothing else; if the shop cannot be reached, the app stays unlocked. Updates: once a day it fetches a small version file from doorplate.app, a plain request that carries nothing about you or your Mac, and offers a newer version in the menu bar; Settings › About turns it off. It sends no analytics and creates no accounts.
- Your desktop names, icons, colors, shortcuts, tracked time and settings are stored in your macOS preferences on your Mac, under
app.doorplate.Doorplate. Pictures you use as icons are copied to~/Library/Application Support/Doorplate. - The Accessibility permission is used to read the Dock’s Mission Control labels and to synthesize the “Switch to Desktop N” keypress. Nothing is recorded.
- A local log of desktop switches is kept in
~/Library/Logs/Doorplate, trimmed to a few kilobytes, for troubleshooting. It never leaves your Mac.
This website
- No analytics, no cookies, no tracking pixels, no third-party scripts or fonts. Everything is served from https://doorplate.app.
- The host keeps ordinary server logs (address, page, time) for as long as it keeps them; nothing is added to that.
